Dear all --
"Stil-Blüte?" (a new book from Ulrike?) Tossing a
word like that to me is like tossing a ball of
yarn to a cat. Catching it and playing with it is
not an option, it's a compulsion. So here goes,
and those of you who really, really know German
can please tell me how far off the mark I am.
First of all, I hope the word "Blüte" does have
the umlaut; if not, "Blut" means blood, and that
would make me crazy right away, since the idea of
blood so close to thread...ugh! But "Blüte" has
to do with blooming and flowering, and we all
love that.
"Stil" is harder to get at. It doesn't exactly
mean style, and it certainly doesn't mean
fashion. The closest I could get to it was via
our own word "stylized," which in itself isn't
the easiest word in the world to catch, either.
It asks you to take a step away from reality, or
at least from the surface of things, from the
accidental, from the occasional, and get down to
a diagram of reality.
O.K. So... "Floral Abstractions"... help me, somebody! -- Aurelia
