Hi,
I've finally got this working properly :o) You do need a fully
up-to-date version of Java to run it, which I didn't have until
earlier on this evening. The program isn't very self explanatory,
but I've worked with computer simulations before and here's how I
think it works. i haven't tried it yet and can't tell you what many
of the numbers mean.
Apologies if I get too technical, I'm not sure I understand what's
going on enough to explain any better yet!
When it opens up, the screen splits into three. On the right is the
thread diagram/pricking, in the top left corner is the input file (in
xml format) and in the bottom left corner is a list of all the things
you've defined and how they nest together.
First you tell the program how many pairs it needs, then you tell it
what, say, "cloth stitch" is by telling it to move the bobbins
according to a coordinate system, the program can tell the difference
between crosses and twists because you tell it which bobbin is at the
front and which is at the back.
Once you've told it what your stitches are, you can then start
combining groups of stitches to make template sections of your pattern.
From templates, you can then define your entire pattern using all of
your templates and rotating them so that they fit.
It might take a long time to get type up enough elements of
patterns/stitches/whatever together in the first place, but it would
then be relatively simple to cut and paste them together to get a
whole new pattern. As a bonus, by the time you've fitted your
pattern together, you would *really* understand the pattern and how
all the bobbins move!
