Hi Devon, Several years ago, my mother and I stayed at the Moulin de Barette, which is actually in Blavozy, my Michelin guide says 9 km outside of le Puy (it's out on the easternish side of town). The description says:
"Ensconced in a park, this restored old mill shelters an elegant dining room, several simple rooms, and others arranged in a newer building." In 2001, the guide said that dinners ranged from 15-40 Euros, and rooms from 50-70 Euros. The room we had was not at all bad; two not-so-small ladies with lots of luggage (including a lace board!) etc. had no problems fitting in. Lighting in the room, of course, was a problem, but that's not a surprise. At the time, they had an internet connection that guests could hook a laptop up to and check e-mails. The restaurant had a good menu, including salmon/trout smoked on the premises, and really was nicely decorated. The owners had, at the time, a Rottweiler who was deathly afraid of thunderstorms. Most of the time we were eating dinner she was curled up on my feet shaking (I am an utter dog magnet, but she wasn't begging, just hiding). Very nice people. As far as getting from Brioude to Arlanc... I assume by smaller roads you are talking about taking the D588 over towards la Chaise-Dieu, and then going up to Arlanc? I don't think I'd do that. If I were doing it, I'd take what used to be the N102 (just found out that the N-roads have now been departmentalized, according to our local English-language rag) down to just before Fix-St Geneve, then take the D40 up to Allegre and go up from there. But that's just me, someone else may have other ideas! In terms of time, I'm horrible about trying to estimate it. However, if you take the D588 over, I'd be prepared for it to take a while. Best regards Elizabeth in Grasse, France, where summer is almost here... > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Wednesday, April 19, 2006 6:03 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: [lace] visiting LePuy area > > I am planning a visit to Le Puy, Bioude, Arlanc and Retournac and am > interested in any insights that can be offered about visiting the area. > > I am particularly interested in hearing about a hotel in or near Le Puy or > the other lace sites from which to launch our lace travel.
