Hot wash, rinse cold! That will make the wool shrink. Wrap your wool fabric around anything narrow and cylindrical that is the right length for your bolster. A length of broom handle, or a roll from wrapping paper, for instance? Make a fabric case from a rectangle as wide as the circumference of your bolster, and as long, with several inches to spare at either end. Hem the ends so you can thread a cord through the hem. Wrap the case around the bolster, it should be a tight fit, then cinch the ends shut by tying the cords, which makes the bolster firm.
Today a couple of old wool blankets fell in my lap. I know Esthers recipe for cookie pillows, but I don't have a tumble dryer, so I hope just hot washing and a spin dryer will do. I also prefer a bolster pillow and wonder how to get the felted blanket tight enough around the core.
