Dear Deborah:

Welcome to our list. Although there have been many discussions about how we
all got started making bobbin lace, your story struck an identical chord to
mine! I was living in Mexico City during 1985-1986 while my husband was on
sabbatical. While I was there, I also saw bobbin lace "courses" in an Anna
magazine that had been translated into Spanish. I remembered seeing a
lacemaking pillow in Ipswich, MA at the Whipple House and one in the General
Lee
mansion outside of Washington, DC. When we returned to the US to live, I
started
to work for an English company with a site in Massachusetts. Through many
telephone conversations with the ladies in Amersham, I was able to trace
enough information to find a supplier, books, etc. And that is how I got
started
(and that includes the horrid lacemaking kit).
