That was an amazing article! I've already told everyone I saw today about it. I'm considering trying to crochet the Lorenz manifold--it was such a pretty sculpture. I also followed some of the links, and found a Klein bottle hat, which is really cool.
Years ago (early 90s) I saw an article in Vogue Knitting about "too bad you can't make a moebius scarf knitting from the center out, but you can't". The article then went on to make an ordinary scarf and twist it before grafting the end to the beginning. Well, I just had to rise to that bait! Using "blind cast on" (meant for holding the first row stitches so you can go back and knit them in the other direction) and a **very** long circular needle, I did it. It was weird to work on, because the needle made two complete circles from point to point and, of course, there was no beginning or end. I never got around to trying to work up a pattern and publish it, partly because there's a flaw in the cast-on row (the center row of stitches on the scarf are twisted) and I haven't quite got the k1-p1 ribbing to work out--the knit columns go from the edge to the center, but there change to purl columns to go back out to the edge. Now others have worked it out for themselves. But it was fun to play with. Robin P.
