David, the first thing that comes to my mind is a pinchain type of filling done on the diagonal, but I really wasn't able to view the "dots" as you wished--on my screen, there are dots on the left, then a big space, then some different dots on the right.
Any chance you could scan the pricking and put it on a website for us to see? If you don't have access to web space, feel free to scan or photograph the pricking and email it to me. I would be glad to put it up for others to take a look at and make suggestions.
