Dear Arachnes and Sue,

If a manufacturer/marketing firm in the People's Republic of China has seen
fit to invade our lacemaking communities (Arachne, OIDFA, etc.) for commercial
benefit, this correspondence is a bit alarming! I remember a man from China
showed up at OIDFA in Lund, Sweden, and was passing out promotional materials
outside of the approved sales area. This was of concern at the time, as OIDFA
is not a commercial venture and expects such activities to be conducted
according to approved guidelines.

People or governments we do not wish to associate with may have invaded what
we believe are protected lists of members of various lace organizations. We
use such limited amounts of thread that it is surprising they would bother to
contact one of us. Is there a way to find out if they have invaded Arachne's
files?

I am told the Chinese are scanning all our books, including those covered by
copyright. For an honorable purpose?

Always be careful how much information you share on Arachne. I say this,
just when a friend has finished photographing my library and copying my book
inventory for the purpose of sharing with Arachnes. We did this because there
have been quite a few inquiries as to what the Lace and Embroidery Resource
Center is all about. Guess it is better to send the address where the
pictures and information sit to individuals who request it, not to the larger
list.
