Has anyone tried the German Hooded bobbins with yarn?
Perhaps leaving off the hood and just using the long
shank? Mine have a shank that's just over 4" long.
The head is rather small, so the thread wrap has to
taper back, but there's lots of room down the shank.

I tried wrapping one with ordinary 4-ply yarn, and put
on 5 yards. It's less than an ince thick across the
bobbin, and could hold more without falling apart.
I'm sure this yarn is thicker than the yarns/fibres
that would be used for fine scarves.

This might be an alternative bobbin to use with yarns.

Alice in Oregon -- had to remove ice from car this
morning before driving.
