I was intrigued by your question about the guipures on Plate 36 in
Seguin. I looked through several of my identification/history books
and came up with a reference and picture on p 164 of Jackson's Old
Handmade Lace which shows a similar sort of tape lace.

Pat Earnshaw also mentions guipures in her Dictionary of Lace p. 76.
Why "Guipure d'Angleterre" I don't know, unless these examples were
indeed made in England at the time. Note the early dates.
I'm no expert, just a scanner, but questions like yours send me to my
bookshelves. Thanks for the incentive. Maybe someone else, more
knowledgeable than I, will come up with the answer. Arachne is
certainly the place to ask!
