In 200l our local library in Weymouth UK, had 3 or 4 books which I borrowed enjoyed and from there took up the hunt for lacemaking classes but now they dont have any at all. One of them I borrowed on and off a long time and then bought my own copy. I hope that others are much better served. Cross stitch and similar seem to be the libraries craft interest.

My little lace class and I shall be demonstrating at the Baldock Festival
next Saturday (19th May) from 10am to 4pm.

Hope it goes well, Lynne - I'm out tomorrow, at the Aston Villa Leisure
Centre in Birmingham (UK) from 10.30-4pm, at a papercraft show - Anne
and I find that we get interest in what we are doing (needle and bobbin
lace respectively) because it is something *very* different to the other
stands.

Then on Monday, 21st May, 10-12, I'll be demonstrating in Tamworth
Library, (where I teach a class on Fridays) for Adult Learners' Week.
This has caused some amusement with my daughter and her friend because I
took some lace books of mine in for the library supervisor to borrow -
("coals to Newcastle"?) - to show the sort of thing that we would see as
being general, good, instruction books, as it had been suggested that
there is a display of lace and books at the same time. This meant that
on Friday she brought into class a box full of books from the Central
Reserve to see if they would be suitable - with the result that I now
have "Lace-making in the Midlands" by CC Channer and ME Roberts out on
loan - this particular book was accessioned into Nottingham library in
1939, having a publication date of 1900, and then moved to Staffordshire
libraries at some point in its life. Should make interesting reading;
the class having had a quick look through the others, want to borrow
some of those after the demonstration - this might then persuade the
powers that be that it may be worth having more than four lace books on
the shelves again.... keep your fingers crossed!
