Here in our town on the Costa Brava Spain there are classes for bobbin
lace making twice a week in one of the Civic Centres belonging to the town
council, but I don't attend them.

The classes are run during school term times and when the school's are on
holiday for 12 weeks during the summer months the lace classes too are on holiday.

Some of the ladies that would normally attend the classes and others of us who don't, meet each Saturday afternoon for 3hours in the patio at the side of the church in town from about mid June until about mid October. The patio is a gravelled area with plane trees set in it and we sit under the trees making lace in the open air. As it is a tourist town and the church is in a busy part of the town we get lots of people coming into the patio area to see what we are doing and to chat. The tatting lady often pays us a visit too, and just like her English cousin she doesn't know the difference between bobbin lace and tatting, or Frivolite as it is called here.

This Saturday meeting of lace makers is informal and we just turn up when we can and leave as we please. It is a nice way to spend a few hours in the sunshine doing what we enjoy doing chatting.

Our church was recently renovated which cost a great deal of money as it is
very ornate with large brightly coloured and gold leafed paintings of saints on the outside walls and a many coloured, highly glazed tiled roof to the dome. It took months to complete the works and some of the money for the repairs was raised by local events.
The lace makers of the town made small items of lace to sell at
these Saturday afternoon meetings, and at our town lace day in September each year we always hold a raffle of a large number of prizes donated by local shops. The proceeds from the raffle for the past couple of years went to help raise some of the money for the church restoration.
