The photos are far from great -- neither very clear nor detailed. But
those "leaves" -- actually wheat stalks -- *are* the lace (mostly cloth
stitch? With twists?). The parts which hold the grain are, I think,
inserted into the fabric. The stems are, I think, applied on top. I've
never seen anything like it. Clever.
