At my local lace group I was chatting to Betty, our librarian. She has been working on a project to reproduce laces from some bed linen at a local stately home, Dunham Massey, where she volunteers. Her interest is to draw out the prickings from copies of the lace and work out how the original was made then make a short length of the lace. The original pieces of lace were made by the lady of the house - almost certainly with assistance from the house staff. Eventually Betty's work will become a display at the house.
There are three pieces of lace to reproduce. Two are complete. The thread used was DMC Cordonnet Special 70 in white. This project has been going on so long Betty no longer knows where the original ball came from, which is a problem as it is clear she does not have enough to complete the third piece of lace. Enquiries so far have turned up lots of size 60, but only ecru in 70. So can anyone please tell me which UK suppliers carry this thread?
