What kind of handle is it? If it's the imitation tortoiseshell type with a
slot for the fabric at the bottom and a hole to put your hand through,
Hobbycraft sell them as do some knitting yarn shops.
If there's a channel along the tops of the bag to take the handle, would an
alternative be to replace both with a piece of dowel with the ends of a
piece of thick cord tied to the ends of the dowel. Stop the cord from
slipping off the ends of the dowel either by sticking a large wooden bead on
each end or carving a slot near the ends as a channel for the cord.
