I've used the Indian art silk which comes in 6 stranded skeins like embroidery threat very successfully for bobbin lace, mostly brilliantly coloured bookmarks. It's called Cifonda, and I measured 1 strand at 28 wraps per centimetre and added it to my copy of Brenda's book.
