I couldn't agree more, Avril.   My Russian tape lace has a much neater look
since I adopted this.

It also works well for any inside curve, not only the real tight one where
you keep using the same pinhole.   For a longer, flatter curve, once I have
done two turning stitches on the inner edge, for the third turning stitch I
remove the first pin and place it with the third stitch, and tighten the
passives gently.  I then keep leapfrogging these two pins to the end.
