Hi

I have been in Venice this past week and on a visit to Burano to visit the Lace Museum, I found that the place was closed, restoration work is being done to the building and all the exhibits etc have been taken away into storage. The duration of this restoration work is scheduled for the best part of this year with the expected date of re-opening in November 2008.

I still did not see the lace being made as the several shops which did have the real Burano lace for sale told me that 'their lady' was away at lunch for two hours - our organised tour was leaving at 1.45. So hopefully another time I shall get to see the lace - at the third attempt. I did however find a small craft shop selling three lovely coloured postcards of modern Burano lace and my DH - David found a postcard of a painting done 1966 of a Burano lacemaker.

So anyone hoping to get to Burano to visit the museum will be unable to do so until later this year.
