My BL teacher, Christy Holtkamp, started me on torchon because of all the basic skills it gives and the features in it gives me a good ground to work with for experimenting on other types of lace. I have moved on to others since. Currently working on Bruges Flower Lace. Christy always worked on a torchon edging at heritage events because it was "showy" for the public and was made to impress. She chose a pattern that had lots of bobbins(30 pair or so) and the action of working the torchon edging was a continous motion. No jumping from one section to another or stopping to do a tally(depending on the pattern you choose) and it was wide enough and went fairly fast so the public can OOO and AAAHH at how easy it is. ;) Even though I prefer working with other laces and get a good challenge from them(more than what I bargained for sometimes!!), I can always turn back to torchon if I want brainless work <GGGG> But that is just me.
