Some years ago, while browsing through some old ? Victorian or early 20th Century "Ladies Handcraft books" in a little off-beat museum, I found a chapter on Lacemaking, - and there, too, it said to put up the pins, and then wind the threads around them!!!!!!!!! :))
It seems to be a general mis-conception, but you would have thought that the Author of the book would have done a bit of research and got it a little bit more correct!
