My lace teacher had a quote from some old book  (sorry, have no idea of the 
source) that "Binche is a narrow lace, as lacemakers can't handle more than 
1500 bobbins."

Between that, the fact that the whole Flanders family of laces uses twice as 
many bobbins to do the "same thing" as other laces (and I have *no* patience), 
and that the beginner/intermediate patterns are so ugly (lumps, blobs, and 
squiggles), I've never gotten into that group.  However, I have collected a few 
of Anny Noben-Sleger's patterns.  They're exquisite, but obviously not suitable 
for a first time!  Not even for me, who always jumps into the deep end of 
things.
