Last weekend I was on retreat at a convent in Ein Karem. I was chatting with one of the sisters there, a Belgian, about her embroidery and my lace. She didn't realize that I make bobbin lace and was delighted to have someone to share this story with.
It seems that she has a sister in her mid-thirties with a mental handicap. My friend told me that talking to her sister is like talking to a six-year-old. Their mother was running out of ideas of what to do with this daughter, who lives at home, so she started to bring her along to a lacemaking course give by a lady in their parish. It was a hit! The mentally handicapped daughter learned to make Binche (!). I've seen pictures of her at work, head bent over her pillow and what looks like 2 or 3 dozen pairs. She needs supervision and Mother has to set it up for her, but even so... I'm impressed! - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
