You shouldn't need to use either pin or fingers to lengthen the leash on the bobbins. If the hitch is correct, just hold the bobbin perpendicular to the leash and roll the bobbin. I use a pin to *shorten* the leash, if necessary, but I always insert it between the windings and the hitch, where there is usually plenty of room to get the pin in without stabbing the thread.
