Generally, this is true.....and with normal cotton or linen, it works. I currently have a project with spun silk and it does not like to unwind without the hitch being loosened. The thread sticks to itself too well. So, as with most things we discuss, it depends some on the particular situation you are dealing with. There's always some thread, pattern, pillow, bobbin, etc, that has to be handled a bit differently than usual.
