Many of the old traditions were taken by the early Christians from the pagan tribes, and Druids that they over-ran, anyway!
They Assimilated, and used whatever "nice" parts of the indigenous traditions they thought were good, and added their own traditions, - so it is all a big mix, anyway. Catterns Day is for All lacemakers whatever religion, nationallity, colour, etc. Let us just enjoy our history, as it is so interesting, - although very cruel sometimes. Remember - the lacemakers who earned their living by the craft were the bottom of the heap, and lived under very cruel times with low wages, poor living conditions, etc. Many were executed just for making lace - a frivolous waste of money according to the French Revolution! Just be happy you live today, when you can make whatever lace you like purely for pleasure! Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter.
