----The beginner teaching book we have used for many years in this area (Torchon Lace Workbook) is no longer available at a decent price from any source. I need a new (easily available) beginner book for new students so they can have a reference on hand.-----
I'm rather impressed with a new book by Gillian Dye and Adrienne Thunder, "Beginner's Guide to Bobbin Lace". It's readily available, I got a copy at JoAnne's with a 40% off coupon. However, it's only $20 US even without a coupon. It's got a decent array of simple torchon projects, from bookmarks to scarves to cushion trim. It also has a lot of pretty and clear pictures showing stitches and closeups of projects in progress. It's a great book for learning BL on your own, although it may be a bit too basic for use with a teacher. Robin Robin P.
