The one warning that I would make is regarding bobbins that have pewter in them. They must not be kept in any place where they might get very cold. If they do this will accelerate the process of pewter degradation.

For other bobbins, keep out of direct sunlight.
Avoid damp
Even temperature

Subject: [lace] Old bobbins

A request for Jeri (or anyone else with the know how) - I know your forte is the preservation of costume and textiles but what recommendations do you have for storing old wood and bone lace bobbins?

I know what some of you will say - that bobbins are to be used - and I would agree to a point. I have a very large collection of valuable old bobbins many of which I do use but there are others too precious (or delicate) to work. I'm sure other members of the list have collections, so how can we store and preserve them for future generations to enjoy?
