A very large knit list hosted by a publisher, used majordomo, but had so many
problems with AOL (first they resolved them, then AOL bounced messages) so they
moved to another. THey had close to 10K or that list (or more) at the time,
and so problems are perhaps inherent.
I joined Arachne 3-4 years ago as I had been heavily into lace knitting/knitted
lace, Herbert Niebling and designing and found Arachne in all of that passion.
I did all the lace forms except bobbin lace, so didn't read much many messages
for awhile (though ventured into chat occasionally to enjoy a joke or two!).
Then a blend of upping the ante with lace knitting and wanting more challenge,
got into bobbin lace (well actually the Shakespeare/St. Germaine stuff brought
me back in, which I referred to already).
I probably mentioned that I had the odd experience of trying to order Honiton
bobbins and was told I couldn't start with those. Then I tried describing the
pillow I wanted, and was told that that was a Honiton pillow and I couldn't
start with that by someone else. Then I tried to describe the kind of lace I
wanted to do and finally found an old book and the picture said it was Honiton
from royalty, centuries ago. Kind of freaky that I had had no visuals to base
preferences upon, but innately was drawn to something that was all meant to go
together!
