I generally use
Q1
a cotton silk or linen
b cotton or linen
c cotton linen or silk. I am doing a bedfordshire collar in silk and the sheen is lovely (its not finished yet!!) d this could be all sorts of lovely threads, including metallic, after all it is not going to be washed. I often also put beads into wall hanging/pictures e. Never done a cushion cover but this would probably be a perle of any thickness.
f. cotton silk linen
g. See d above
h. Not done one but have seen one made in 1 and 2ply wool. Apart from the wool stretching so tension has to be gentle. The scarf was lovely

Q2

I would like to see colour in fine threads. I am traditionally in my lacemaking, mostly white or ecru and will make black.
b. I do like fil a dentelles for some needlelace (3d flowers)

Generally I think there should be plenty of threads in all thicknesses in a good range of colours.

Last answers are a little vague as I tend to work with fine threads for fine lace, bucks point, honiton, duchesse etc.

Subject: [lace] Thread choices questions

I have been asked which threads I think lacemakers would most like to
have available. I know my choices, but they are possibly not yours!
So;

Q1, If all sizes and all colours were available which fibre (silk,
cotton, linen or rayon) would you be most likely to choose for
a, hankie edging
b, table mat/doiley
c, collar
d, wall hanging
e, cushion cover
f, baby dress trimming
g, pictorial piece to be framed
h, scarf

Q2, If a new range of coloured linen became available would you like
it to be:
a, about 40 wraps/cm - fine enough for point ground
b, about 30 wraps/cm - similar thickness to DMC Special Dentelles 80
(tatting cotton)
c, about 22 wraps/cm - similar to most perle 12
d, about 14 wraps/cm - similar to most perle 8
e, about 11 wraps/cm - similar to most perle 5
f, thicker than any of these

These are answers to the list please, not an anonymous survey!
