There are different ways to fasten and end lace projects. Some have already
been mentioned. Do the best you can, and keep your eyes open to ways and
suggestions from different teachers and books. As with everything else,
practice is the best teacher.

I wanted to mention that there is a book written with just beginnings and
endings. If I remember rightly since I don't have the book at hand, the title
is "The Beginning of the End" by Ulrike Lohr/Voelker. You might want to borrow
it from your local guild or national guild to see if it is helpful. I think
there is also some information in "Practical Skills in Bobbin Lace".

One point I wanted to make is that a person should have an idea of how she
wants to end the lace, then be sure to start it in a manner that will
facilitate the ending. Such as: When there are a lot of sewings to be done in
a short space or you are using tiny threads, magic threads may make it much
easier to do the final sewings. Or... put an extra twist or two on the
beginning loops so there's room to get a crochet hook through the loops when
you are ready to do the sewings.

If you are making something to be permanently mounted, like a picture, you can
just tie off the threads and leave tails. When attaching the lace to the
backing, each thread can be put on a needle and pushed through the backing just
behind each knot. The ends can be taped to the back of the backing and ignored.

Be patient. You can do it. Your friends and family will be amazed at what you
did. Things look a lot different at three feet than they do at three inches.

Happy lacing,
