I was always told that you could only sell lace from your own design. Also - I was taught that you could not teach from someone elses book. You had to design your own patterns.
However, if a student came to you with a book, you could teach her from it, as she had purchased the rights to use the book, - and as the teacher, you were just helping her to understand it.
