Although I have always loved and used lace fabrics for some of my clothing. I
didn't know anything about bobbin lace until late 1980s when there wasn't time
or money to buy the kit I saw, or learn. Regretted not having it later when
I had more time on my hands but did find one in 2000. I didn't see anyone do
any until a month after I started lessons.
So far no lacemakers in my own family background, a number of dressmakers,
something I also have done but none of my siblings did. I used to knit,
crochet, some embroidery. Mum taught me to knit, I taught her and 2 of my
siblings to crochet. I have promised to help my nieces daughter to learn to
make lace.
We have found lacemakers in my husbands family, early 1800s and today he got
some information mentioning the possibility of it being Devon Trolly lace.
We were going to go to the museum on thursday but chose to postpone the trip
so not to get caught up in the devon country show traffic, but do intend
following up this lead and any other we can find in the next little while.
