Hello Norma, and everyone Osma Gallinger Tod was a weaver, basket maker, student of textiles extraordinaire. She wrote many articles, books and pamphlets. I did not know that she investigated bobbin lace, but evidently did, by the article you have. It would be typical of her to do so ;)
Visit handweaving.net, search her name and there are a dozen available articles (the several that mention 'lace' are for the lace weaves on a handloom, not our bobbin lace). She often wrote, and advertised in Shuttle Spindle and Dyepot. oh now, - I just googled for the digital archives on weaving, and it looks like the booklet you mention is available online http://www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/weavedocs.html Search Osma's name and find in the selections "no17071' (or the title is mentioned in another document - I started to download it, and got '1971' on the first page, which shows a Torchon pattern, before my screen froze; adobe, large files and dialup...not a good combination :( HTH On Mon, May 25, 2009 at 4:00 PM, Norma Harris <[email protected]> wrote: > Among my books I found a 13 (numbered) page booklet entitled "THE BELGIAN > WAY > OF MAKING BOBBIN LACE" by Osma Gallinger Tod. ... > > I took it to my lace class today but my teacher had never heard of this > person > and couldn't help.
