Hello All! Thanks for posting the photos of the fan. They are quite lovely, nice detail & looks like a m-o-p button on the closer. Have you cleaned them? They look very lightly colored so wonder if they are later than 1900? Most of the celluloid/French ivory items I've seen are somewhat yellowed with age so unless they've been specially stored, I would expect more color on them. The same with true ivory, also yellowing with age & having been handled, oils from hands etc. I believe there is another way to test for plastic vs ivory, having to do with a carefully heated sewing needle. Perhaps someone else on the list knows more about this technique. I have two pair of ivory blades waiting for my skill level to catch up with my heart's desire!! They were quite dirty when purchased & I didn't want to invest in the museum grade cleaner so used an eraser as directed in an internet article. Much improved without taking away the "vintage" appearance. I would add that Debor ah Beever has designed a very curvy & sultry pattern, if you are interested in Mirecourt. Thanks also to Jean for posting the dragon--WOW! I hadn't visited the site recently so was glad to be reminded of the goodies to be found there. Susan, in Erie, PA where quilt guild & embroidery projects have taken over my workspace. But lace, like cream, shall rise to the top again soon!
