Some of us were fortunate enough to make it to Sweet Briar College in Amherst, Virginia this past week for the third Lace at Sweet Briar. Clay Blackwell puts on a class act, let me tell you! There were around 35 lacemakers there which made for a friendly, cheerful, atmosphere. There were lacemakers from 14 states â Oregon, Rhode Island, Georgia, Illinois, South Carolina, Connecticut, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Utah, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
Housing is in the Elston Center, a great hotel/motel on the grounds and attached to the Conference Center where the classes were held. The classes offered were Binche with Michael Giusiana, 'sGravensmoer wth Susan Wenzel, and Tönder with Bobbi Donnelly. Lacy Susan and Kenny vended with everything anyone could possible need. She acknowledged the wonderful assistance she received from Karen Douglas, Tamara Duvall, Susan Wenzel, Ann Geddie, Michael Giusiana, Bobbi Donnelly, Nancy B. Marion, and others for their assistance. However, she and Karen did the dealing with the Sweet Briar staff to see that everything went smoothly. Couldn't have been better... Sweet Briar College is a girl's college with a most beautiful campus (I believe one survey classed it as the most beautiful in the USA). The book store was open to us, and the meals were superior and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the walk to the college dining room but transportation was provided if one could not walk that far or chose not to. The meals were cafeteria-style, but we had linen table cloths - that's a classy girls' school for you! Upon our arrival on Sunday, we were greeted by our own Tamara Duvall who registered us and gave us our welcoming goodies furnished by Lace at Sweet Briar and Lacy Susan. A Welcome Reception that evening allowed us to âmeet and greet.â Classes began on Monday and we were treated to a lovely buffet luncheon in the Conference Center on Wednesday. There were two mini classes offered on Wednesday afternoon, or one could work on her class project. A tasty dinner was served on Firday evening and the door prizes (I think everyone got one - they were GREAT!) and "Opportunity Drawings" were awarded. I was not fortunate enough to get anything I had opted for in the "OD," but did enjoy hearing the happy yelps of those who did. We were able to leave all our pillows and equipment in the classrooms all the time during the week. After dinner, we could return to work as long as we wanted. A call to the guard opened the classrooms, and we notified him/her when we were through for the night. This was such a plus! We didn't have to lug and tug everything to our rooms between and after class! Everything was smooth as silk, and Happy Husband Terry only appeared when he was needed. What a Happy Time and I canât wait until June 20-26, 2010 when we again gather for Lace at Sweet Briar. - To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [email protected].
