I've also had extra charges placed on parcels recently Usually the vat (understandabe) and a royal mail "handling charge" of around £8 a package ironically the most expensive of £12 was on a box with torn bashed in sides and bubble wrap poking out of the bottom
Usually it was a very rare occurance that international parcels were even charged vat, most went through customs unexamined. So it seems with the recession and various unexplained reasons, they are clamping down on imports as almost every delivery now come with the dreadedawaiting payment card NOTE: no trees were killed In the sending of this message, however a largenumber of electrons were terribly inconvienenced. *as seen printed on a korean made kitchen knife " please keep out of small children" something MUST have been lost in translation * on a japanese food processor " not to be used for the other use" let's just hope this other use Isn't related to the above and remember to lock the doors On 24 Sep 2009, at 08:27, "catherine" <catherinebar...@btinternet.com> wrote: <Barbara has now put out another two books of Mary Card lace patterns - one> <of bird designs, and one of flower designs. I purchased a kit for a beautiful little denim jacket with peplum and sleeves smocked in pink from Country Bumpkin/Inspirations recently and had to go to the post office to collect it as there was an excess to pay. The kit was quite expensive to start with but I just couldn't resist making it for my 4 year old granddaughter. The post office charged me a 'handling fee' which was almost half the cost of the kit! I asked why this was as I had received a huge box only days earlier from Lakeland Plastics here in the UK which was more than 4 times the size of my package from Australia, which was in a Jiffy bag and would possibly have passed through my letterbox. He said he didn't know but that they had targeted the US last year. A friend said that had it been her, she would have left he package at the Post Office but as I had already paid for the kit and the postage from Australia (which was considerable) there was no way that I was going home without it! I have bought fabric from the same people several months ago but no 'handling charge' was imposed, so this is something quite recent and also experienced by another friend of mine. Barbara Ballantyne has already contacted me about her new books and told me that they can be obtained from Pat Hallam of Roseground here in the UK. I don't know the cost of these books from Pat but you can check them out on her website www.roseground.com Has anyone else experienced this new 'handling charge'?
