Could the reason why the earlier writers described the needlework as being curious be because they hadn't come across lace before and it was as near a description as they could make, especially to needlelace?
- -- Jane Partridge Do we have any experts on the old use of the word 'curious'. I seem to remember that it had a slightly different meaning in the past, it had more a flavour of describing the object as being intricate, cleverly worked, needing knowledge and skill to make it than describing it as being an oddity. - To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [email protected].
