If holes are the important part of defining lace what about a (well
made) beginner's practice strip of cloth stitch or Christine
Springett's snake?
Brenda
I've always wondered whether the snake (when worked totally in cloth
stitch) really gives an impression of making lace when used on "have a
go" pillows. It is why I encourage visitors to a demonstration to make a
stitch in whatever I'm working on, rather than having a separate pillow
- explaining that as no knots are tied, there is nothing they can do
that could mess it up and it is just as easy to undo a mistake.
