I got fed up with the brass wire for spangling: it breaks easily and
distorts the spangles.

I've been using brass wire since I started making lace, 21 years ago - and have, in that time, only had about two wires break in use - well, not in use, usually in transit. Possibly it is down to the quality of the wire? I've stuck with coils bought from lace suppliers. Bobbins have broken, but not the spangles!
