Jeri I do understand your concern about building and maintaining such a specialized library. In regard to the issue of digitizing -- the problem is what are the various digitizing entities intending. How will their collection be organized, what kind of indexing is there. Digital archives can also be destroyed. Where are the master copies of the digitized files. To have confidence about passing your idea off to somebody who is building a digital archive of textile books you would have to understand how they decide what to include, how they index the collection, what security they have and what succession plan. The world has become so vastly complicated you would need to be current with all the plans of various entities who are interested in creating these digital archives. I don't think your life's effort in collecting those books was wasted effort. But it looks like your efforts are not yet over. A new phase seems about to begin. What kind of talk is there among university kids in computer science about archives? What is being planned or discussed? Maybe you need to talk to librarians ( particularly university librarians and museum librarians) about what they think will happen to their collections. Lorelei Halley
