Yes, the lace event of those picture was held in a village south of
Madrid. And, as Carolina has already told you, there are many of them
all around the year in Spain. Bobbin lace is now very fashionable
here, and lots of people make it.

But, historically, it is a craft which has been made for centuries
here. In many places even for a living. So, these events, if they are
held in one of those places originally famous for its lace, are much
more interesting to see than this one from Navalcarnero. For example,
L'Arboc (a village in Tarragona province) is very interesting, because
they make a lace which is typical of them... not seen anywhere else.

As for the rest of Spain, as a very general description, we can say
that torchon and guipur is the lace which is mostly made. Or more
exactly, we could call it "hybrid", because it is a mixture of both
styles.

You can see a beautiful example from Almagro (Ciudad Real.. 2 hours
south of Madrid) in picture 103
(http://picasaweb.google.com/mcospo/NAVALCARNERO2009#5352456715214991698).
It is called "the hazelnuts", because of the little round motives
which resemble them.

Apart from that, most of the laces you can see in this Picasa album
are reproductions of laces from many places, especially from Lace
Express, or other books and magazines. But not typical Spanish.

Regards,

Antje González, Spain.
