Hello All! I was intrigued by the reference to soie d'alger as this is considered an embroidery thread in the US. It is manufactured by Au Ver A Soie & has a very soft twist. It is distributed by Access Commodities in the US & is readily available at any stitching shop. Don't know whether that helps you at a shop in OZ but you could check with Nordic Needle & see if they will ship. It's lovely to work with for embroidery, don't know about lace. It is NOT curly & fiddly like Pipers that's for sure! I met Mme. Arpin at her shop/atelier well before I started making bobbin lace. I had purchased one of her books in LaBourboule (under the influence of lacemaking friends back home) & she graciously autographed the flyleaf along with some "bons mots". The silk thread I purchased from her is Zwicky "Iris" & I've never seen that thread since. Quite fine with a higher twist but soft hand. Thanks Tess for posting the video link. Students in Brioude were doing much the same th ing under Mme. Arpin's watchful eye so this brought back fond memories of riding the bus over the mountains with about 15 other crazy quilt gals to visit her. Those were the days! Keep those links coming!! Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA
