In response to Jean's post, I have to say that she was far more worried
than I was! Admittedly, I have not had to wait this long for a package
from any point outside the US... and I've had a lot of international
shipments since discovering PayPal!! But clearly this has been an
"unusual" year, in terms of weather, so I was prepared to wait. I have
"known" Jean for years, via Arachne, so I never doubted her. The "Posh
Bag" is stunning! It is exactly what I had hoped it would be, and I
will enjoy using it for a very long time. I'm told that some of my
fellow class-mates from the course in Brugges were at the stall when
Jean bought the bag. I do hope no one had to walk away empty-handed!!
As I'm writing this, I'm listening to the winds whistle and groan
outside. We are truly lucky that that's the main thing we've had from
this storm!! We got about 2 inches of snow on Christmas day - which
prompted us to cut short a festive gathering, but not so short that we
didn't all enjoy it immensely! The roads have remained passable, and
our grocery stores are open and well stocked with anything we need. But
all around us - N/S/E/W - the snow is much worse and things are not so
simple. Still, the roads are clear for us to go (three hours NW) to
visit DD and the grandsons tomorrow.
Lace Content: I have spent more time at my lace pillow each day for the
last month or two than I have in a very long time!! I as totally
absorbed in a wonderful new project, designed by Anne-Marie
Verbeke-Billiet called "Brugge". It is so nice to be so focused on a
piece again, after a long "dry" spell of not having anything on a pillow
that called to me.
I hope everyone is enjoying their Christmas Week, and looking forward to
a New Year filled with good health, lots of lacemaking, and good
friendships!

I do hope that no-one has had the same experience that Clay and I have
just had. I got a Posh bags bobbin bag for her at Southern Counties
Lacemakers Fair and posted it airmail on 23rd November. It was
delivered to her today. Needless to say we were both in a state of
anguish over what had happened to it. I posted 4 parcels together, of
which 3 were to Florida - one of those was delivered on 23rd December
and the other two are still in the wind somewhere.
I'd got the forms downloaded to report missing mail ready to send as
soon as Royal Mail starts working again on Wednesday.
Royal Mail are saying that, because of increased US security, post is
being delayed by about a week as they can no longer send mail on
passenger flights and are having to find space on cargo flights, as
well as increased customs checks when the post finally arrives in the
US. At the moment no parcels can be tracked.
We've also had two small book packages returned by Royal Mail to
Amazon as undeliverable - no attempt to deliver has been made. Our
postie said there are thousands of Amazon parcels in the local sorting
office waiting to be attended to. Reckon they decided it would be
quicker to clear the backlog around the country by sending whole
consignments back to Amazon.
So if you've got packages already in the system bound for the US, then
you need patience - a lot of it. And if you're planning to send
something, it might be a good idea to wait until the end of January in
the hope that they will have cleared the backlog and things will move
a bit quicker.
