Achim The lace on your fan is definitely real Chantilly. A very nice design, too. Chantilly had its heyday throughout the 1800s. From the layout of the design, I would say that it dates from 1830 at the earliest. And I think that lace fans were less used at the very end of the 19th century. Chantilly -- a black lace -- shows up best when laid on top of a brightly colored background. Right around 1900 womens' fancy dress was less dramatic than it had been earlier. All these factors suggest a date towards the middle 1800s.
I would not venture even a guess about the fan sticks. Obviously fan sticks could not have been made of plastic in the 1800s. Of course the lace could have been re-attached to a new set of fan sticks at a later date. But if the fan sticks had been damaged, requiring re-mounting, the lace would most likely have been damaged as well.
