Hi Arachnids Giving a 'correct name' is possibly a misconception. I compiled a lace dictionary following problems we had when the City & Guilds Lacemaking section was set up. We found that different terms were being used for the same stitch, ground etc. in different parts of England and therefore we needed some form of cross referencing so we could communicate. When there are many different names for one stitch/ground etc. who is to say which is 'correct'? How should we decide which is 'correct' and is it right to say which is 'correct'? Eunice Arnold in her book 'Teach yourself Torchon Lace' uses the term 'full stitch', (the one now sometimes referred to as CTC) the correct term for that stitch in the area in which she lived. Language is not a cut and dried subject, words are continually coming and going out of fashion and it may be that some of the lesser known fillings are perhaps better identified by diagrams rather than words. Incidentally I came across 10 other names for CTC stictch, some of them bobbin and some needle terms, all of which 'correct' considering where and when they were used.
