I've always pre-pricked onto card, mainly because I was taught to do it that way and find that I understand the pattern much better when I start the lace if I've spent the time pricking and inking in the markings, but I've just realised I could never make lace without pre-pricking - I rely on feeling the pre-pricked holes under the pin, only look for the pinhole/dot if I can't find it with my fingers!
