Yesterday, I replied to Beverly only. Now that I see Lora considers books
to be supplies, there may be others interested in my recommendation. It
has been slightly modified for the Arachne international readers. Here it
is:

Dear Beverly,

For books, there is Barbara Fay, Versandbuchhandlung, Am Goosberg 2,
D-24340 GAMMELBY, Germany. I think it operates somewhat like Holly Van
Sciver's
business in Ithaca, New York, USA. No shop, but she travels to sell
books. Barbara's list of lace events where she will be in 2011 includes
Denmark
(2), Germany (5), Austria (1), The Netherlands (1).

Catalog in German, English, French is at _www.barbara-fay.de_
(http://www.barbara-fay.de/) Also available in printed form via surface
mail, if you
are a regular customer.

You should know that she goes to important lace events in Europe to sell.
This means she will probably be in the sales room at the OIDFA Congress in
Normandy, France, next year (2012). As an American, to join OIDFA you
would go to the USA national treasurer of OIDFA. If you are interested,
refer to membership information at _www.oidfa.com_ (http://www.oidfa.com) .
You may tell Margaret Palen I referred you to OIDFA, via correspondence on
Arachne.

Barbara Fay is fluent in English. She also is known for publishing many
lace books so that we can get very nice regional lace instructions,
especially from northern European authors.. These are often in 3-4 languages,
and
usually one is English.

One reason there are very few lace supplies shops is that rents are the
same, whether used for high-profit items like alcoholic beverages or for
lace. I have a friend here in Maine who rented a tiny shop in a small town
last year at the going rate per square foot. She is now closing the vintage
linens shop, as there just is not enough walk-in business to cover expenses.
She's been in business for at least 35 years, and will go back to selling
on-line, at antique fairs, and from a room in her home (by appointment).
