I use light or medium grey as background for everything -- white, black and colour. It provides enough contrast for me (except grey itself, of course), being a neutral colour it doesn't interfere with any other, and it doesn't make my eyes tired from being "loud" or too "distinct".
Years ago, I bought two huge rolls of medium grey transparent Contact plastic and put that over patterns printed on white paper. Now that its beginning to run low and I'm trying to conserve it as much as I can (I've not been able to replace it), I laid in a supply of grey printer paper, run my patterns off on that and cover them with the -- easily available -- transparent, "no colour", Contact plastic. The colour of the card is, for me, immaterial, since the pattern (printed on ordinary weight paper -- cheaper than card) is stuck on top of it, before the whole is covered with plastic. -- Tamara P Duvall http://t-n-lace.net/ Lexington, Virginia, USA (Formerly of Warsaw, Poland) - To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [email protected].
