Hello All! It was so nice to hear from Peg in Fairview Park. I hope this
means we will be seeing "you" at some of the workshops later this summer &
fall. Do check out www.lacemakerusa.com under events for info on Tonder &
Honiton dates. Also Pittsburgh Lace Group is having a summer camp plus Deborah
Beever is coming in the fall. Lots to choose from if you want to have fun &
make lace at the same time. The Enclave guild meets in Cortland, OH & there
used to be a guild up around Brecksville although I don't know any contacts up
there. As to lace resources, where I live in Erie, Pennsylvania it IS like
toiling away in the wilderness without Moses to lead! Lace of any kind is not
a tradition here, nor in many other parts of the US, so internet based
resources have been a godsend when my "state" may be larger than your whole
"country". Many miles separate us while a lack of public transportation & high
fuel prices conspire to keep us in our place. No hopping the train &!
taking a day jaunt to the V&A or The Hollies!! Books are great but have you
ever read & re-read the text & still have no idea what was said? As an
example, I never did learn to program the VCR from the instructions provided!!
So 'nuff said--my struggles aren't bigger than your's, just different.
L-o-v-e-d the stamps!! Since I now own my late father's stamp collection &
there is a large quantity of 1930's thru 1960's stamps from Europe, I will be
checking to see if I have any of those pictured. If the stamps were a
referendum, it would seem that lace is non-existent in the US compared to
elsewhere. Glad we're still alive & kicking, even if not center stage.
Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA where we can see the sun at last
