Hi Clay,

In IrfanView it actually crops it so you have only the piece you selected showing on the screen. It gets rid of the rest of it. When you save it as another file name and pull it up, only that section shows. The printer only crops it if you select the Best Fit to Page (aspect) function.

I'm not all that familiar with PhotoShop...I've only used it for photos and haven't used the crop feature, so I don't know how it works in that program.

Just a minor correction... you're not really cropping the area selected, you are changing the size. The printer cropped it in the first place, which is why you want it in Photoshop. :-)

Hi Jacquie,

Thanks for bringing that up. Yes, you can do the same thing in PhotoShop. It would basically be the same process, just a different program. Any program that allows you to select an area and crop it, and shows the size either in pixels or inches/centimeters will work.

My suggestions for downloading IrfanView was for anyone who doesn't have a PhotoShop or PhotoShop-like program.

BTW...I do have to say that I am fairly new to PhotoShop and have been using IrfanView a lot longer. I find IrfanView a lot less fussy when it comes to things like this. But then, I'm still on a learning curve with PhotoShop.

I'll write more about the joys of using IrfanView for lacemaking soon. Heading out to the woods for a retreat with friends today. Taking my lace...of course. ; )

As you say this programme is a copy of Photoshop, would Photoshop or Photoshop Elements do the same job? Lots of us probably have one of those already, but I for one wouldn't have thought of using it to deal with a download. I don't want to download software I don't need, even if it is free.
